Most train companies in Europe offer help and facilities for travellers with disabilities or reduced mobility. What's available depends on the country and the train company, but you can often expect:
- spaces for wheelchair users on the train
- lifts or ramps to get on and off the train
- help from trained staff when boarding, getting off and changing trains
- accessible toilets
Help with boarding, getting off and changing trains is free. Some train companies also let a companion travel with you for free or at a reduced price.
Need someone to travel with you? If you need a companion or caregiver during your trip, you may be able to get a free companion Pass. Contact the DiscoverEU Travel Team, and we'll check if you're eligible.
How do I get help?
- Ask in advance. Contact the train company or the station at least 24 hours before you travel. It's best to ask as early as you can.
- Check the details. Each train company's website explains how to book help and what facilities its trains and stations have. Interrail's information on travelling with reduced mobility
