Sharing your trip online is part of the fun. In the official #DiscoverEU Facebook group and on Instagram, you can connect with other travellers, swap tips, share memories and make new friends. But a few simple habits can protect your Pass, your personal information and your safety.
Never share your Pass or tickets online
Don't post photos or screenshots of your Pass QR code, seat reservation tickets or travel documents such as your passport or ID card. Even a small part of a code or document can be enough for someone to misuse it.
- Before you post a photo, check that no tickets, codes or documents are visible in the background.
- Never share your login details, password or any codes you receive by email or text message, not even with friends.
Share your trip safely on social media
- Tell your family or friends your full itinerary, so someone at home always knows your plans.
- Asking for travel advice? Share your route, but not your exact dates or where you're staying.
- Post after you've left a place, not while you're there. This way, people don't know exactly where you are.
- Don't share your live location publicly, for example through check-ins or location tags. If you want family or friends to follow your trip, share your location only with them.
- Check your privacy settings, so only people you trust can see your posts.
- Keep personal details private, such as where you're staying, your travel dates or your phone number. When chatting with other travellers, use messages on social media rather than giving out your phone number.
Stay safe on public wifi
Free wifi in stations, cafés and hostels is useful, but it isn't always secure.
- Check the network name with staff before you connect, as fake networks with similar names exist.
- Avoid online banking or entering passwords on public wifi. Use your mobile data instead when you can.
- Turn off automatic connection to open wifi networks in your phone's settings.
- Keep your phone and apps up to date, so you have the latest security updates.
