If you have been awarded in June 2024 or later, you will receive a seat reservation package together with your DiscoverEU Interrail Pass. To understand how these credits work, please read the following information carefully.
Your seat reservation credit allowance
You receive 4 seat reservation credits with your DiscoverEU Interrail Pass that allows you to book seat reservations at no extra cost. You may use your seat reservation credits for both trains that require them, or those which have optional seat reservations available. To know which trains require seat reservations, simply look up your preferred route in the Planner or check this article.
Booking seat reservations using your seat reservation credits
Booking your seat reservations can be done through 'Book your seat reservations' button on the DiscoverEU Travel App. Log onto the Interrail booking system, look up your preferred itinerary, and add the trains you`d like to book a seat for to your cart. Once you have added all your seats, you can proceed to payment and your booking will be completed. For more information, you can check out this article.
Each train booking will use up one seat reservation, so keep this in mind in case your itinerary involves changes between multiple trains. You can track how many seat reservations credits you have left by searching for a trip in the Interrail online booking tool in the app. You will see the number of seat reservation credits you have left under the search results, after you logged into your account.
If you want to book seats for a group of travellers, you can check this article for more information.
Keep in mind: Seat reservation credits are only redeemable through the Interrail booking system in the app and cannot be used when booking through other reservation channels (e.g. booking directly with the carrier or at the train station). You also cannot use your seat reservation credits to book couchette or sleeper accommodations on overnight trains, though you can use them to book a seat on them. If you wish to take the trains that are not bookable through the Interrail booking system, you need to pay this yourself.
Changing your itinerary after you have used a seat reservation credit
Once you have used a seat reservation credit to book a seat, it is no longer refundable. If you change your itinerary, and the new train requires a seat reservation, you will need to use another credit to book it. If you have already used all 4 credits, you will need to pay for the new seat reservation out of your own pocket. For an impression of the costs of seat reservations, you can check this article.
If you could not use your booked seat reservation despite wanting to, due to e.g. a strike, the train getting cancelled, or a delay of a connecting train, please have a look at this article for more detailed information.
