If you're travelling with a group, of course you'd like to be sure that you're seated together with your friends/ family. Below, you will find some quick instructions on how to set this up for yourself and your travel companions.
Group bookings using your seat reservation credits
If you have been awarded in June 2024 or later, you will receive seat reservation credits together with your DiscoverEU Interrail Pass. You can only book seats together using the seat reservation credits if the other members travelling with you also have received the seat reservation credits.
If you are travelling as a group, and you want to sit together, one member of the group will need to make the seat reservation booking for all travellers. You can do this by adding your travelling companions to your Trip in the Interrail Self-Service. Please check the instructions for this in the section below
All travellers must use the same payment method in order to book seats together. This means that all travellers must either have remaining seat reservation credits left, or your whole group must have all used up their credits, in order to be able to complete your booking. If one participant of the group does not have enough credits left, it will unfortunately not allow you to proceed with booking. In this case, this participant will need to make the seat reservation separate from the group and check-out with one of the other modes of payment.
When booking your tickets together in the DiscoverEU App/ Interrail Self-Service
Please go to the Interrail website and log into your account. You can use your DiscoverEU account for this or, if you've registered with a Google account, use the ‘Continue with Google’ option.
Once you have logged in, click on your name in the top right corner and go to the section called Trips & Travellers. When you open this, you will see an overview of Trips registered in your account. Usually this is just one trip, unless you've travelled with Interrail before. These trips are not connected to the trip in your app, so they can have a different title than the one you've used for your Pass.
Please choose the trip that's already listed here, and select the ‘add a traveller’ option. Here, you can fill out the details of your friend/ family member's Pass. You can repeat this step if you'd like to travel with more than one person. The maximum group size for booking seats together is 9.
After adding your friends/ family to your trip in your account, you can go back to the DiscoverEU app reservation system or Interrail Self-Service. There, you can now see their names below yours when making a search enquiry, and you can select them to travel together with you. Once you've done this, you will see that the price is given for multiple people. This means the system will now book seats for all travellers selected as part of the same booking, and try to allocate them together. In case there are not many seats left, however, it can sometimes still happen that separate seats are booked.
Have you already booked your tickets separately, and want to change seats to sit together?
In this case, it's best to contact the railway company directly to see what they can do. When doing so, please provide them with the PNR code mentioned on your e-ticket and that of your company. That way they'll be able to locate your ticket(s) faster, and inform you what arrangements they can provide. The DiscoverEU Travel Team is unfortunately not able to change the seating arrangements on existing bookings.
Are you travelling in a large group (more than 9 people)?
Unfortunately, you will have to split up your group in this case, as our system cannot accommodate orders involving more than 9 people.
