As a DiscoverEU participant, you're part of a community of thousands of young people exploring Europe together. Along the way, you'll have plenty of opportunities to meet other participants, exchange travel tips, discover hidden gems through each other's recommendations, and maybe even make connections that last beyond your journey. To help participants recognise one another, we encourage everyone to wear a visible blue ribbon (or any other blue piece of fabric) while travelling. Combined with the DiscoverEU app, this makes it easier to spot fellow participants and start a conversation.
Wear your blue ribbon
The blue ribbon is an easy way to show that you're part of the DiscoverEU community. Wear it somewhere visible, such as on your backpack, suitcase or jacket. Whether you're travelling solo or with friends, the blue ribbon can help you connect with fellow participants along the way.
Use the DiscoverEU app
The Discover tab in the DiscoverEU app includes several features to help you find and connect with other participants.
The map shows popular destinations and travel routes of other DiscoverEU participants. If you save your itinerary in My Trip, your journeys will also be added to the map anonymously. You can even browse different travel dates to see where you're most likely to meet fellow participants.
The app also offers simple but fun conversation starters and tips to help make saying hello a little easier. Taking the first step can feel daunting, but one conversation might become one of the highlights of your journey.
When planning your trip, the Planner highlights trains that other DiscoverEU participants are also travelling on. If you're taking the same train, wear your blue ribbon and keep an eye out for fellow participants. Sharing a journey is a great opportunity to start a conversation.
Make the most of your journey
How you experience DiscoverEU is entirely up to you. You might prefer exploring on your own, or you might enjoy sharing part of your journey with other participants.
There's no right or wrong way to travel. But if you're open to meeting new people, wearing your blue ribbon and using the DiscoverEU app can make those first introductions just a little easier.
