Congratulations on securing your DiscoverEU Interrail Pass! You’re about to start an amazing adventure. To help you get started, here are 10 important things to get a better understanding of your DiscoverEU Interrail Pass.
- You can travel on 7 days within a 1-month travel period. You choose when the 1-month travel period starts when activating your Pass. During each travel day, you can take as many trains as you like. Learn more about how travel days work check out this article.
- Once your Pass’ travel period has started, it cannot be deactivated. If your plans change, make sure to reschedule your travel period before it starts. This happens at midnight on the first day of your 1-month travel period. Learn how to change your activation date in this article.
- Some trains require a seat reservation, which you need to book separately and well ahead of departure. You have 4 seat reservation credits to book seat reservations for free. After using these 4 credits, extra reservations must be paid for separately. On trains where a seat reservation is required, you will need to show both your Pass’ QR code and a seat reservation ticket. For more information about seat reservations, check out this article. Note: If you participate in DiscoverEU through a local organization, different conditions apply.
- You can travel in your home country on 2 of your 7 travel days. These are called inbound and outbound journeys, and they activate automatically when you schedule a train in, or through, your home country. Learn more about inbound and outbound travel days in this article.
- Live timetable updates are only available for some railway companies. If realtime updates of your journey are not available in the app, the Planner shows offline timetable data instead. For the latest info on delays or cancellations, Check the station departure boards first, or visit the train company’s website for the latest information.
- We send notifications about strikes or major disruptions. Make sure to enable service notifications in the DiscoverEU Travel App so that you do not miss them! Please note that the notifications are not tailored to your specific itinerary.
- As a DiscoverEU traveller, you have access to lots of discounts across Europe. As part of the DiscoverEU programme, you will receive the European Youth Card in your app. This card gives you access to discounts in all European countries and helps you save on accommodation or public transport. In addition, having an Interrail Pass gives you discounts through it`s Pass Benefits, which you can use within the 1-month validity period of your Pass.
- The train company is your first point of contact in case your trip is disrupted. If any issues arise during your trip, the best you can do is to speak to local train staff first. Especially during high season, it might take up to 48 hours for us to get back to your message.
- Some countries are not included in the Planner, but you can still travel there with your Pass. Learn which countries and how to plan for them in this article.
- Your Pass has an expiration date. The Pass must be activated by a fixed date, which depends on when you received it. You can find the conditions of your Pass in this article.
