Public transport is not included in the DiscoverEU Interrail Pass that will be booked for you. To make the most out of your trip, here are some tips to share with you:
- Discounts: As a DiscoverEU traveller, you have access to many discounts for local transportation in cities. The EYCA Card, which you can find in the app under ‘More’, offers many benefits to take local transport at reduced fares. If you are travelling with a DiscoverEU Interrail Pass, make sure to also check the Benefits Portal. Your Pass will provide discounts on some City Passes, which sometimes also include public transportation.
- Arrival and departure station: If your accommodation is near a train station, then this could come in really handy on your arrival and departure dates. Instead of routing to the main station, you can use this smaller station as your arrival/ departure station, and save yourself a bus/ metro ticket when arriving/ leaving the city. However, we wouldn't recommend using travel days for commutes into the city, as this will use up travel days that you could also use for much bigger distances. For these commutes, purchasing separate tickets is often more beneficial.
- Travel Card: In the case of spending multiple days in a city, a travel card (for the bus, tram, metro) will often save you money rather than buying single tickets. These can often be bought at ticket machines of the local transportation company, or at a ticket desk.
- Bikes or e-scooters: Why not rent a bike or e-scooter, and experience a town or a city at your own pace? Both the EYCA Card and the Interrail Benefits Portal offer a variety of discounts on bike and e-scooter rentals. You can find the EYCA card in your app under ‘More’.
