What you should do depends on who booked your flight.
The DiscoverEU Travel Team booked your flight
If your flight is cancelled, the airline should let us know, and we'll contact you by email to help.
Sometimes the airline doesn't inform us, and you only find out when you check in online or at the airport. In that case, contact the DiscoverEU Travel Team as soon as possible and choose Travel Booking as the topic.
You booked your flight yourself
Contact the airline directly. Under EU air passenger rights, if your flight is cancelled, you can usually choose between a refund or another flight, and get help at the airport, such as food and drinks. You may also get compensation if you arrive 3 hours or more late, unless the delay was caused by something the airline couldn't avoid, such as bad weather.
Your rights as an air passenger
What if my luggage is lost, damaged or delayed?
- Complain to the airline in writing within 7 days. If your luggage was delayed, you have 21 days from when you receive it. There's no standard EU form.
- Checked-in luggage: the airline is responsible, and you can get compensation of up to about €1,300. You won't get compensation if the damage was caused by a defect in the bag itself.
- Hand luggage: the airline is only responsible if it caused the damage.
- Travelling with expensive items? Consider travel insurance, as the airline's compensation may not cover their full value.
Who can get flights through DiscoverEU?
DiscoverEU is mainly about travelling by train. But we can book flights for some travellers, for example those who live in an island country or an outermost region of the EU, or who want to visit an island country. Places are limited. How to fly to Cyprus, Iceland, Ireland or Malta
