This rule means that the travel tickets that are bought by the DiscoverEU travel team are, as a rule, train tickets. DiscoverEU will not cover other means of transport (e.g. planes or buses) for destinations that have existing train connections between them, though you are of course free to acquire such tickets at your own expense. If, for example, you live in Paris and want to start your travelling in Amsterdam, you're free to purchase a flight to Amsterdam and start travelling with your Discover EU ticket from there.
Exceptions
There are exceptions where DiscoverEU might cover other means of transport, as ferries and buses can also be booked in certain cases.
These are as follows:
- If you are living in an outermost region of Europe, or if your country is an island, other means of transport may be covered by Discover EU.
- If you are travelling with FIX Passes, and your budget does not cover a train fare but could cover a cheaper bus ticket, the bus ticket can be covered by DiscoverEU.
- When you wish to visit Malta, Cyprus, Ireland or Iceland.
If any of these conditions applies to your travel plans, please don't hesitate to reach out to Submit a request to have more information.
Kindly note that once the travel tickets have been booked, they are non-refundable and non-modifiable, it is therefore important to make sure you have planned your final itinerary before submitting a request to receive flights, bus or ferry tickets.
