Congratulations on your DiscoverEU Interrail Pass! Here are 10 things to know before you go.
1. Activate your Pass before your activation deadline.
This confirms that you will travel. If you don’t activate it in time, your Pass will be cancelled and given to someone on the reserve list. Don’t mix this up with the “Activate by” date on your Pass, which is your last day to start your trip. See your important dates
2. You have 7 Travel Days within 1 month.
When you activate your Pass, you choose your start date. From that date, your Pass is valid for 1 month. On each Travel Day, you can take as many trains as you like. How Travel Days work
3. You can change your start date, but only before it begins.
You can change it any time before 00:00 local time on that day. If you deactivate your Pass to change your dates, activate it again straight away. How to change your dates
4. Connect to the internet at least once every 24 hours.
Open the app while online so we can check that your Pass is valid. If you don’t, your Pass becomes inactive until you go online again. Learn more about the internet connection
5. Some trains need a seat reservation.
Book these separately and early. You get 4 free seat reservation credits, and after that you pay for extra reservations yourself. On these trains, show both your QR code and your reservation ticket. Learn more about seat reservations
Note: if you take part in DiscoverEU through a local organisation, different conditions apply.
6. In your home country, you can only use your Pass to leave and to come back.
You get one outbound journey and one inbound journey, and each uses one of your 7 Travel Days. When you add a train in or through your home country to your Pass, the app will ask if you want to use one of them. Learn more about travelling in your home country
7. Check for delays and disruptions.
Live updates are only available for some train companies, so always check the station departure boards or the train company’s website. Turn on notifications in the app to get general alerts about strikes and major disruptions.
8. You get discounts across Europe.
Your European Youth Card in the app gives you discounts on things like accommodation and public transport. While your Pass is valid, you can also use Pass Benefits.
9. If something goes wrong, talk to the train staff first.
The train company is your first point of contact if your trip is disrupted. You can also contact us, but in busy periods it can take up to 48 hours for us to reply.
10. Some countries aren’t in the Planner, but you can still travel there.
You just need to plan those journeys a bit differently. See which countries and how to plan your trip
